Twice in this passage Jesus addresses the age-old question "what about the people who have never heard about Jesus - can they experience eternal life?" "Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”
Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them" (397) "If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin." (399) To me these seem to indicate that Jesus somehow extends his grace and influence even to those who don't know him by name. So somehow Jesus "the Way" (397) must be more inclusive than many of us think.
